What You Need to Know About the New Start Line for the 2026 ABP Southampton Marathon Festival

The ABP Southampton Marathon Festival 2026 is bringing some exciting changes, including a brand-new start line location designed to give runners a smoother, safer, and more streamlined race-day experience. We know a few of you have raised questions since our announcement, so here’s everything you need to know about how the new setup will work on Sunday 3rd May 2026.

Where is the new start line?

All races for ABP Southampton Marathon Festival 2026, apart from the Mile Fun Run, will start from Dock Gate 8 at the City Cruise Terminal, with access via Herbert Walker Avenue. This location provides more space for runners to gather safely and makes the race start even more iconic. The Mile Fun Run will be held at the finish gantry on Above Bar Street where it has been in previous years.

Baggage drop

We’ve made baggage drop simple and efficient:

  • Bags will be stored in articulated lorries stationed inside the docks.
  • Each bag will receive a numbered tag, matching the hook in your assigned lorry.
  • Lorries will then be transported to the finish line area for you to collect your bag.
  • Marshals and clear signage will guide you every step of the way.

Where is the Charity Village?

Don’t worry, the much-loved Charity Village remains in Watts Park, adjacent to Guildhall Square. This is also where you’ll collect your finisher’s medal, race merchandise, and refreshments. Charity partners will have their booths here, with some exciting new activations for 2026. Before the race, charity representatives will join their runners at the new start for a group photo opportunity, a great way to capture the energy before the big moment.

Start line facilities

We’ll have portaloos available in every holding pen, ensuring you’re ready to go when it’s time to race.

Race start times

All events, Marathon, Half Marathon, 10K, and 5K, will set off together at 09:00. Runners will be organised into starting pens based on estimated finish times. You can update your finish time estimate anytime via Let’s Do This if your training has changed your pace. The Mile Fun Run will start later on in the afternoon from the finish gantry on Above Bar Street. Timing to be confirmed.

Why the change?

The new start line at the City Cruise Terminal allows us to:

  • Provide more space and better facilities for runners.
  • Improve flow and safety on race morning.
  • Create a memorable start experience for the 2026 ABP Southampton Marathon Festival.

Key takeaways for runners

  • New start line: Dock Gate 8, City Cruise Terminal (access via Herbert Walker Ave).
