For our first Charity Tuesday is from our Lead National Charity Partner, Macmillan Cancer Support
Being told ‘you have cancer’ can affect so much more than your health – it can also affect your family, your job, even your ability to pay the bills. But you’re still you. We get that. And, after over 100 years of helping people through cancer, we get what’s most important: that you’re treated as a person, not just a patient. Through better treatment we have added years to life but now we need to add life to years.
Macmillan is the UK’s leading cancer supporter charity giving personal, one to one care and support to thousands of people every day. We are the only charity supporting anyone, no matter their age, where they live or their cancer diagnosis. It’s why we’ll take the time to understand what matters. We help people make sense of their diagnosis and guide them through treatment, so we can help get the support needed to take care of their health, protect their personal relationships and deal with money and work worries.
There are currently over 51,000people living with cancer in Hampshire. This is one and half times the capacity of St Mary’s football stadium.
Without our amazing fundraisers, we wouldn’t be able to provide vital services and support to these incredible people. We are hoping to raise £25,000 at ABP Southampton. Join Team Macmillan for the Southampton Marathon, Half Marathon, 10K or 5K and help us reach our goal. This money could:
· Fund over 750 hours of specialised Macmillan nurse care
· Provide1,000 people living with cancer a session of emotional support with a Macmillan buddy
· Pay for a Macmillan Information and Support Manager for 5 months, giving people with cancer the opportunity to ask questions and talk through their concerns
In return, you will receive a fundraising pack, a Macmillan t-shirt, access to the Macmillan training zone, and the loudest applause on the route from our amazing volunteer-led cheer point.
