From the local charity, Alfie's Wish:
The ABP Southampton 2022 was our first running event as a charity and we had no idea how many runners we would have…. However, in 2022 as the charity grew so did our team of a few and by race day we had a staggering 75 runners taking part.
The team of 2022 was incredible, they were all so enthusiastic and there was a definite buzz in the air as we all wanted to make this first ABP one to remember – and it definitely was!
Some of the runners had never run before so were attempting their first 5k whilst other regular runners wanted to challenge themselves with the next distance up by running the 10k, half marathon and we even had 3 marathon runners. When they crossed the line this was very emotional.
It was a day full of excitement, nerves and a sense of achievement, not only from crossing the line but also because each person was proud to be wearing their Alfie’s Wish top and knowing they helped raise over £24,000 as a team which is phenomenal!! Well done everyone involved
It was such a great atmosphere on the day and we loved being in the charity village next to our neighbours Abby’s Heroes (another incredible local children’s cancer charity).
After a really successful 2022 at the ABP we can’t wait for ABP 2023. We hope it will be bigger and better than this year (if that is even possible!).
