As part of our regular updates with Southampton City Council and other local stakeholders it has been decided to move the ABP Southampton Marathon to Sunday 2nd April 2023.
Within the city, The Port of Southampton is Europe's leading turnaround cruise port. Due to unforeseen circumstances, the original event date (Sunday 23rd April) will now coincide with one of the busiest cruise turnaround weekends in the ports calendar. Therefore, it has been decided by all key event stakeholders that although the event could run on the original date, it would cause significant disruption to the city. We are moving the event to Sunday 2nd April 2023 and this will mean all residents, businesses, runners and visitors will benefit from a more efficient event and easier flow through Southampton.
On Sunday 2nd April there is only one cruise ship scheduled in Port, the Saints are playing away and any road improvements have been scaled back. Making an easier flow for runners, residents, visitors and businesses through the city.
Sunday 2nd April is three weeks before the London marathon so the event will be perfect for training for those runners. Additionally, it is the weekend before Easter meaning you can have a guilt free bank holiday weekend.
We appreciate this may be inconvenient to you and your training and we do apologise that this change has happened. We have been working closely with our stakeholders for the best course of action.
With five months left to go to the event there is plenty of time to train for a Full Marathon, Half Marathon, 10K or 5K.
We have the following options available, please action your chosen option by 30th November 2022 or you will be automatically transferred to the new date.
1. Run on Sunday 2nd April 2023 = No action required - we will automatically transfer your entry.
2. Transfer to ABP Southampton 2024 - Sunday 21st April 2024
